2011年夏 イングランド＆スコットランド旅行４ ソルテアとダーラム

8:25 リーズからソルテアへ
SALTMILLと工業団地をみる。
公園や川もありよい雰囲気。
世界遺産。工場群と工業団地。とてもきちんと
整備されている。

「SALTAIRE is considered to be the largest and
most intact model industrial village of the
nineteenth century in England.
Little alteration has taken place and today the mills,
associated workers housing and range of facilities
- church, school, allotments, institute, park
- are still visible.
The village is named after its founder.
Titus Salt, and the River Aire
that flows through it.
Designed by local architects Lockwood & Mawson.
Saltaire was built between 1851 and 1876.
The historic importance of this unique place
was recognized in 2001
when it received World Heritage Status.」
